Production Optimisation Study

iProdTech recently completed a production optimisation study for a deep-water oil field offshore West Africa. The wells include single zone and multi-zone completions. The production system includes 3 production loops (West, East and South East) with each loop having 2 pipelines/2 risers. In the multi-zone completions, flow from each zone can be controlled via downhole ICVs (Inflow Control Valves). Wells also typically have a choice of routing to either of the two pipeline/riser system on each flow loop.

iProdTech were requested to review and update their Integrated PROSPER-GAP Production Model (IPM) and use the model to identify potential short term production gains which can be achieved via adjustment of the downhole ICV settings, well head chokes and routing valves.

The scope of work included the following:

  • Update PROSPER/GAP model of the production system based on the existing production allocation. The modelling comprised of the following:
    • Modelling of oil production system from reservoirs to riser tops.
    • Flow loops & risers included.
    • Ability to route wells between either pipeline for routing optimisation.
    • Multi-zone wells modelled using separate inflows for each zone to allow ICV optimisation.
    • History matching using existing production allocation (OFM database)
  • Structured review of the key operating parameters (well rates, pressures etc.) along with the optimisation variables (ICV settings, well head chokes and well routings).
  • Make use of the updated IPM for production system optimisation (well routings and choke settings) and rank opportunities based on expected gains and probability of success of recommended changes.
  • Develop implementation and monitoring plans for any recommended system changes.
  • Monitor the production system response to any changes conducted during the study and provide further feedback / recommendations.

The updated IPM proved to be useful in accurately identifying opportunities worth ~ 3,000 bopd. There were several additional opportunities identified by the model which were recommended to be followed up by the client when appropriate.
